Production designer for web hero assets.
Tech & Mech builds websites for service businesses: roofers, boat builders, tree crews, a flight school. We need one contractor who can take a client's photos and brand colors and hand back the finished hero asset for a landing page. Subject cut out clean, type worked into the image, composited, exported, done.
The job is hands. Photoshop and Illustrator at a working professional level, and the patience to get an edge right at 100 percent zoom. We supply the brief, the palette, and the direction. You supply the finished file.
Remote. We are in Orlando, Florida, on US Eastern time. Latin America works well for us and Spanish on calls is fine. Your written English needs to be solid, because your file notes and questions go to clients.
The work
What you would actually be making.
Four reference examples of the finish we mean. Each one is a subject cut out of a photo and built into a hero band with oversized type and one brand color. That combination is most of the job.

Image slot 01: roofing split hero
01Split panel. Subject cut out over a diagonal, headline on the solid side, trust strip run along the bottom edge. -
Image slot 02: photo in type
02Photo in type. Subject crossing in front of and behind the letterforms, water masked by hand where it breaks the edge. -
Image slot 03: color wedges
03Color wedges. Three cutouts placed across angled panels, hair and fingertips holding up at full size. -
Image slot 04: ghosted type
04Ghosted type. Subject on a soft background with the headline set large and faded behind, small callouts placed around the figure.
What comes from us
- A written brief for every page, with the fee agreed up front
- The client's palette and fonts, already chosen
- The landing section and any interactive piece, built in-house
- Client photography, plus a design library to build the rest from
- A written process for each task, with a QA check on the other end
- An assistant who fits the client's copy and footage into the page
What comes from you
- The remaining page sections, adapted from the library to fit the client
- Cutouts at full resolution. Hair, gear straps, water, tools. Edges hold up at 100 percent.
- Composites and type treatments like the four above
- Retouching and color work so a phone photo from a client sits next to studio stock without looking like it
- Layered source files someone else can open, plus web exports sized to spec
- The finished section placed into the page. We show you how the first time.
What we look for
Photoshop at a professional level: masking, compositing, frequency separation, smart objects. Illustrator or an equivalent for vector cleanup and simple icons. Motion or 3D is a plus and not a requirement.
You ask questions before you build, not after. You hit dates without anyone chasing you. And when a brief leaves something out, you say so instead of guessing and spending three hours on the wrong thing.
Pay and process
How this works and what it pays.
Every job is a written brief with a fixed fee, agreed before you start. Fees are per asset or per page section, and a fast, competent designer will find they land between $30 and $40 USD an hour. We pay on delivery, net 7, in USD. There is no hourly clock and no open-ended retainer.
It starts with a paid test: one asset from a real client brief, four days, $150 whether or not we go further. Before the test starts you sign an IP assignment and an NDA. Everything you make for us belongs to Tech & Mech, used or not, and we do not negotiate that part. When you fill out the form below, make the first word in the field labeled Hardest cutout the word Edge. After the test we get on a 30 minute call to talk through the file you sent. If it holds up, work starts the following week.
Volume is steady and it grows if the first few land. We would rather pay one person well and often than spread the work thin.

Three live URLs and one layered working file. We open the file first.
- Sign, then the paid test
IP assignment and NDA, then one real brief. $150, four days.
- A 30 minute call
About the file you delivered. Why that mask, why that crop, what broke.
- Ongoing work
Fixed fee per job, brief in writing, paid net 7.
Apply
Send the file, not the pitch.
We need three live URLs where your work is on a published site, and a link to one full resolution layered working file for a composite you made. PSD or TIFF, unflattened, masks and adjustment layers intact. A shared Drive or Dropbox link is fine.
Applications without the layered file are not opened. Mockups on Behance or Dribbble do not count as live URLs.
We reply to everyone who sends a file. Give it a week.
